Conference 2008- Partnership Working in Port Health

9th- 11th September, Manchester

This years APHA conference is being hosted by Manchester Port Health Authority and held at the Marriott Worsley Park Hotel and Country Club. The full programme of speakers is now available to download.

Tuesday 9th September- Partnership Working
Afternoon session introducing partnership working in port health including keynote speaker Charles Easmon, Vice-Chair of the Health Protection Agency. This afternoon session (following on from the APHA AGM in the morning) will be of relevance to both officers and local authority elected members.

Wednesday 10th September- Imported Food
Full day session looking at current issues in imported food controls with a range of speakers from UK government, the EU and industry. The session will be of interest to port health, environmental health and technical officers, central government representatives, official veterinary surgeons, public health and food industry professionals and local authority elected members

Wednesday 10th September- Elected Members Sessions
Targeted parallel sessions providing local authority elected members and chief officers with a strategic overview of current issues in port health and an opportunity to discuss the impact of local performance initiatives. Thursday 11th September- International Health
Focussing on international health and the implementation of the IHRs at points of entry including speakers from the World Health Organisation and the Health Protection Agency. The day will be of relevance to port health, environmental health and technical officers, central government representatives, public health professionals, representatives from the shipping and airline industry and local authority elected members.
